Yesterday I was just optimizing my (already outdated) Thesis 1.7 beta post and a few hours later, Chris Pearson tweeted about the final version. I was late, but not today: Thesis 1.7 is out and it’s pretty amazing. You can download this masterpiece of a WordPress theme right over at DIYthemes.com – now it’s finally available for those who don’t have the developer option activated.

If you want to learn how to create a custom Thesis 1.7 design within 2 minutes you should have a look at this post.

While playing around with the brandnew (and totally awsome) Thesis 1.7 Beta I’m already pretty much excited about the next “big” version: Thesis 2.0 Final. I know that of most problems we experience and share in the DIYthemes forums is taken care of. Every now and then you can catch a tweet by Chris Pearson in which he states which huge changes & improvements Thesis 2.0 will contain…

My Personal Thesis 2.0 Theme Wishlist

Well, it’s not really a wishlist, it’s more like I’m expecting the following features to be part of any future release. If they are not going to be implemented I will of course patiently wait for the next version, but still drop a tear or two.

  1. Inserting a header (image) from the options menu – Digging into the hooks is not very difficult, yet it’s annoying and just doesn’t fit Thesis’ style of making blogging easier!
  2. More hooks, so I can access every single layout element – I’m currently thinking about implementing a cool feature like we can see it on Chris’ personal blog right within this post
  3. Enhanced drag and drop functionality – In my post rant about Thesis versus Headway I said that Headway is somewhat ahead concerning usability (may only be true for absolute newbies)
  4. Experimental (and totally optional) HTML5 features like magizine-styled columned posts – Combined with the full-width framework this should be a killer feature
  5. Integrated XHTML compability mode for the multimedia hooks – Videos from Youtube and other platforms just won’t validate automatically! Chris, please help!
  6. Dynamically created hooks for the “killer entries feature” – I want to access some categories in a different way though and NOT only through digging into the CSS of every single li element

As Thesis 1.6 (or 1.7 beta) is already pretty much what I expect a Premium WordPress Theme to be I’m of course very interested in the new features.

More features mean more bucks to pay

I mentioned it elsewhere: Thesis 2.0 might be more expensive than the previous versions. That is, of course, because the next big release will be stunning. Whether or not my wishlist is went through and brought to WordPress reality – I’m still expecting Thesis 2.0 to be a big winner in 2010!

What do you expect from the next Thesis Theme release?

Whenever great things are developed, there is a mastermind behind it. Chris Pearson from DIYthemes (yep, the guy who created the Thesis Theme) is being interviewed by Nick Reese – here is the original interview – and the following video is what should make your day! It made mine though. If you instead want to watch the video about Thesis 1.7 (and even the mysterious Thesis 2.0) and where Web Publishing is heading in 2010…

Let the guru speak for himself in HD: http://www.pearsonified.com/2010/01/web-publishing-2010.php

Along with 20’000+ Thesis Theme users I was desperately looking forward to another improvement on Thesis by Chris Pearson! A few days ago Chris did two things to me: #1 He disappoints me since Thesis 2.0 is still far away and #2 makes me smile because he dropped the Thesis 1.7 Beta for curious users who are proud owners of the Thesis Developer Edition!

Thesis 1.7 Featuring…

  1. Improved SEO options – you can now redefine important SEO stuff on every single post and/or page!
  2. Save & Restore – you are finally able to save your exhausting customizations with a single click (for later re-use or because of nostalgic reasons)
  3. Redesigned options menu – choose from: Improved Site Options, Design Options, Page Options, Custom File Editor, and a brandnew Options Manager
  4. Faster page loads – since header.php and footer.php have been moved to the recylce bin your website will load within seconds
  5. Choose your JS library – all our favorite JavaScript Enhancement Tools are only a few clicks away instead of digging into ugly folder mess
  6. A killer comment system – drag and drop your trackbacks and comments as you want them to be shown
  7. Improved internationalization – many parts of the old Thesis Theme code were not accessible for translation purposes, now they are
  8. more detailed info on this subject are available on the official site: http://diythemes.com/thesis/version-17-features/

Early Thought About Thesis 1.7 Beta

Trustworthy resources already tested the benefits, have a look at them:

If you are already a satisfied Thesis Theme user you are for sure going to love the new features. But if you are still searching for the perfect WordPress Theme for your blog, you should have a look at my description pages and learn Why Thesis is perfect, Try Thesis to realize it really is perfect and finally Buy Thesis as it costs very little compared to your effort to create a beautiful blog with other themes (time is money).

Well, it’s not totally fresh news since DIYthemes already moved their beloved Inhouse Affiliate System to ShareASale.com a few months ago, but still: It’s worth mentioning it again from another perspective! I do believe that this move is not one of the best. It’s not a move I would have expected from Chris Pearson and his folks at DIYthemes. But, alas, I’m not the mastermind behind the hugely successful WordPress Theme Forge…

Bad News For Thesis Theme Affiliates?

Nope. I don’t think so. While I was enjoying the superfast and reliable payout service all Thesis Theme Affiliates experienced I do NOT enjoy the new system at ShareASale. But that is only because I HATE their layout and design. I wish, their website would use the Thesis Theme aswell ;-)

Since I’m serving very old “news” today, many things happened in the meantime:

  1. Thesis Theme Affiliates do not have to worry about their promotion website being non-English! ShareASale clearly stated, that it is more than okay to publish Thesis Ads on websites in other languages than English.
  2. You are explicitly allowed (and welcomed) to use your own advertising materials – as long as those banners and text links do not violate the TOS which DIYthemes already formulated loosely enough.
  3. Yes, if you are not a citizen of the USA you have to pay about $3 to $7 to get your payout. But: Instead of using the Paypal system you are now getting your submissions served directly into your bank account. I would like to have Paypal as an option but I can live without it…

The Future Of Thesis Theme Affiliates

Some time ago, Brian Clark mentioned on his website the following amazing fact: DIYthemes paid more than $392,828.80 to their affiliates in 2009. Me included! I’m not only proud to have the power to help people buy good stuff – I’m also very satisfied with DIYthemes’ methods of interacting with me!

I started as a customer and ended as a partner. What a career! At all times I feel that I’m part of a big movement into the right direction. Of course it’s mostly about making money but in the end that doesn’t matter as long as the crippled WordPress Theme Scene is evolving so fast.

Just imagine what the blogosphere (yup, I also hate that term) around WordPress as a CMS/Blog System would be without Thesis.

Latest gossip is all about Thesis. And it’s also about those fellow Thesis users. Some do really love DIYthemes’ Thesis. Some of them who do love their precious WordPress framework are going to be interviewed here. I’m just launching this category, so you should consider knocking on my digital doors to grab a spot in the line. Let’s go!

Denise Busch, The Artist Behind AGGRO-ARTS.COM

Yet Another Thesis Testimonial

Hi, who is it?

My name is Denise Busch, I’m yet another drawing artist from Germany.

And your domain? We want to visit your blog!

http://aggro-arts.com

Sounds brutal. Are you going to kill people with your pencils or what is that all about?

Nope – I dedicated myself to the art of drawing and chose the everlasting World of Warcraft environment as the subject for my fantasy drawings on aggro-arts.com

Oh, that’s okay. Murder is a crime anyway. So, how long have you been using WordPress and especially Thesis?

Not for long, my site is a really fresh one, it’s maybe a month since I started it. Before I launched aggro-arts.com I was busy with all the drawing. The gallery is currently filled with 20+ unique pictures and I wanted to have my website / blog ready for visitors. The art-thing (World of Warcraft Art, so to speak) itself was on my mind for the first time almost 9 months ago…

I assume that this blog is your first one, ain’t I right? And if so: How come you chose Thesis? I mean if a greenhorn enters the web there is only little chance he or she picks the right WordPress Theme in the first place…

Indeed. I wouldn’t but my companion told me about Thesis. He uses it himself and he simply loves it. I had barely an idea of what blogging is all about, so I believed his repeating statements of how cool Thesis is to be a broad hint. Actually I didn’t order it myself – my blog was designed and maintained by the very companion I’m talking about. It’s the client site option for 40$ – although I’m not very confident about pricing in the scene I strongly believe this amount to be more than fair ;-)

These are conclusive arguments. Have you at least had a peek inside?

Yes! After watching Thesis and especially the Options Panel in action I was bound to check out what’s really inside. I had my webdesign, CSS and layout maintained by my companion as well, but from now on I’ll try to figure things out on my own.

Do you know there is a HUGE community around the Thesis Theme? You know, I learned something from the X-Files: “The Truth Is Out There”

More or less. I’m currently following @pearsonified to get the latest Thesis gossip right into my Twitter inbox (BTW: You can follow Denise Busch here – @aggroarts) but since I do not “own” the package I don’t have access to the forums and such :-(

Well, I bet you’ll find some tutorials for free if you use Google or my blog! Besides not really being inside the community forums – are you satisfied with Thesis?

Yes. No complains. No regrets.

And what do you like best with the Thesis Theme?

The many options you can choose from to make your blog unique and that each of these options look so good. In my opinion there are a lot of possibilities to go with but not too many to get lost without a handbook.

Do you think there will be a better theme available in the future? e.g. Headway

Maybe one day there will be competitive theme that also has a lot of options to choose from but I personally think that Chris Pearson and his team won’t let someone else outdo them that easily.

Hey Chris, did you hear that?

One last question: Would you subscribe what I state on almost every page? e.g. I LOVE THESIS

Yes, I also love Thesis for its simplicity and elegance.

Thanks for your time spent answering my questions.

Nice words, nice woman, nice art

Go and visit aggro-arts.com for some Aggro-Art!

I believe this section is going to be HUGE, so beware of hesitating. I repeat: Don’t hesitate to contact me, I’d like to interview YOU about your Thesis experiences!
